The London Millennium Footbridge was derided when it unexpectedly
started swaying upon being opened to the public in 2000. Although the
fault was quickly corrected it is still known to Londoners as the
Wobbly Bridge. Despite this inauspicious opening, the innovative low-
profile suspension design affords unobstructed views east and west,
and links St Paul’s Cathedral and Tate Modern, pictured here
silhouetted against low cloud in the night sky.
